In 1630 he invented the monotype technique - a single print made from an unincised copper plate painted in oil or printer's ink. From 1634 he spent some times in Naple, in turn influencing indigenous painters. Returned to Genova in 1645, completed monumental Baroque works. In 1648 he was appointed court painter in Mantua.
