He studied at the San Paul School of Fine Art . Decide to go to New York at the Art Student League under Robert Henri and the Chase School He allied himself with the Society of Indipendent Artists and helped to organize their first exhibition in 1910 He visit San Francisco in 1907-08 and in 1911 settled there. He thought at the California School of Fine Art, the Art Student League in New York Ciity, and in 1926 joined the faculty at the University of California in Berkeley. His home and studio was in 1617 Califoria Street. He belonged to a variety of Art Association. He had a varied of style, as Realism, Impresionism and Pointillism. His oeuvre includes oils, pastels, and tempera (Ref: Edan Milton Hughes) landscape size 91/2x13" frame copper gold 17"x 19" white mat .a bronze plaque on the frame Joseph Van Sloun 1879-1938 $ 1,500.00
