"Allegory of Passing of Time" 1500 etching by an Old Master, Italian Artist - Attrib. to Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzoli (Mazzuoli) detto Parmigianino - Born in Parma 1503 died in Casalmaggiore 1540 - Precosius painter and etcher from Parma, assimilating the influence of Correggio, Raphael and Michelangelo, he forged an original and extremely elegant form of Mannerism which was widely influencial throughout Europe expecially as it spread by means of his etchings. He worked in Parma, Naple, Florence and Rome. He painted many highly refined, yet expressive portrait (e.g. London, National; York, Gallery (Copenagen, Museum; Rome, Borghese; Parma, Galleria; Madrid, Prado) In 1527 Parmigianino settled in Bologna until 1531 where a series of major religious work continuing the search for refinement and complexity. In 1531 returned to Parma signing a contract for the Church of the Steccata.He was inprisoned in 1539 for breach of contract so he took refuge in Casalmaggiore where he died in 1540.
