Young Man writing on a stone tablet, eagle at his feet" Woodcut by Albrecht Durer - Nuremberg 1471-1528 Durer was born in Nuremberg second son of a goldsmith from Hungary who trained in the Netherland. He learned from his father the use of burin in copper engraving and admire artist like Jan Van Eych and Van der Weyden . He lived close to a patrician Pirckheimer who incourage Durer to pursue his creative talent and visit Italy. In 1486 Durer was apprenticed by Michael Wolgemut and worked with watercolours and oil, designing woodcut for illustration. In 1490 he was in Basel, one of the great centers of European book production. In 1494 he returned to Nuremberg, where his father arranged a marriage to Agnes Frey but he was unhappy and left for Venice in 1494-1495 He went to Padua, Mantova, Cremona and visited Pirckheimer in Pavia. He returned to Nuremberg and had an extraordinary productivity combining northen love of detail and Italian generalization. His print in woodcut and engraving were published between 1495 toand 1500. He returned to Italy in 1505-07 and he achieved great position in Venice. Than he traveled in europe, studied Grrek and latin. His work is all over the world. He brought Italian renaissance to nothern Europe. Durer died of malaria fever. size 150x200 mm value $ 2,000.00
